Vaccines

To our Kids First Pediatrics Patients and Families

Due to the large volume of information regarding childhood vaccinations in the newspapers, internet and magazines that is not medically or scientifically proven regarding childhood vaccines, Kids First Pediatrics has been compelled to more formally outline our stance with regard to this cornerstone of pediatric care. After careful consideration, and firmly standing by our desire to provide outstanding medical care to our patients, we have revised and updated the Kids First Pediatrics Vaccine Policy, which is attached to this letter.

In summary, as of September 1, 2008 it will be the policy of Kids First Pediatrics to utilize ONLY the vaccine administration schedule structured and endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and currently required by the state of North Carolina (please see attachment). Therefore, as of September 1, 2008, Kids First Pediatrics will NOT accept any of the various “alternative” vaccine administration schedules that have no proven benefit. For those patients who have requested an alternative schedule prior to September 1, 2008, a written vaccine administration schedule must be provided by that patient's parents to Kids First Pediatrics and be approved by a Kids First Pediatrics physician. The only exception to this policy will be based upon documented medical indications, at the discretion of the patient's physician. After September 1, 2008, Kids First Pediatrics will not accept any new patients who cannot comply with this policy.

This decision was not easily arrived at, but one we believe is most appropriate in order for us to continue serving the long term health needs of our patient population. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (704) 542-5540.
